Duffy Ackerly

 

 

Duffy has been involved in Maine swimming since 1966.

He was a founding member of the MSOA serving as president, vice-president or Executive Committee for over 30 years.

He has been a high school official since 1966 and was a state meet director for 20 years.  He has served as high school state-meet referee, starter or diving referee and as an official’s instructor for over 30 years. 

He has officiated at numerous high school New England Championship meets.

He has worked as a YMCA coach and as a certified swimming and lifesaving instructor.

He has officiated YMCA meets since 1968 and as a state meet referee for over 30 years.  He has also worked numerous times at Y New Englands.  He has been a certified YMCA officials instructor trainer for over 30 years.

He worked as a starter at the YWCA National Championships.

He has officiated Maine Swimming U.S. meets numerous times and as a starter at the Eastern Zone Championships.

Duffy worked as a collegiate official since 1973 working most Maine college teams meets.  Has worked at College conference championships for 35 years like New Englands to America East for 15 years.

He has been an active supporter of UMO swimming and diving for over 20 years.

In 2013 he was awarded the Lawrence LaBrie Distinguished Service Award from the Maine Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.

He has served as a volunteer and board member for the state and several local YMCA’s for over 40 years

He met his wife through swimming and has 3 children whom all swam competitively
